ACNA MEMBERSHIP

Regular Member

The Atlantic Community Newspapers Association welcomes new applications from community newspapers in Atlantic Canada interested in joining our association.

Associate Member

We also accept applications from Associate members - non-publishing members such as suppliers or friends of the industry who wish to be associated with ACNA.

In order to qualify for regular membership in the Atlantic Community Newspapers Association your newspaper must:

  • be published in the Atlantic Provinces
  • have a known office of publication open to the public during normal business hours
  • publish at least one issue per month and not more than 4 issues per week
  • be carried on with a view to profit
  • have a clearly defined editorial page with opinion and masthead, with the opportunity for letters to the editor from members of the public
  • have a news oriented front page and include local news of the community served by the community newspaper as a major portion of its news content
  • include news and advertising, but not more than 70% of the space in the newspaper shall be devoted to advertising exclusive of any pre-printed supplement included as part of any particular edition
  • have a completed and current circulation audit by a recognized audit service approved by the ACNA
  • be available to the general public and have been in business and have published consistently for 1 year before being accepted for membership in ACNA


Your responsibilities as a member of our Association include:

  • Paying ACNA membership fees in a timely manner
  • Delivering a complimentary subscription to your newspaper to the ACNA office on a weekly basis
  • Adhering to the bylaws of the association in order to remain in good standing
  • Members will be expected to support initiatives of the regional and national association with regard to enhancing the newspaper industry on the whole
  • All member newspapers are obliged to carry the ACNA's weekly regional classified ads at no charge to the Association, unless the subject matter of a particular advertisement does not conform, in its wording or form, to the policy of the member newspaper
  • The masthead of your newspaper shall include the identity and the business address of the publisher

Please note: Membership is not granted until the Board of Directors reviews and approves your application.
